Why?
NFER report[1] on remote learning pointed to ‘just over half of parents are engaged with home learning’, and EEF report[2] on supporting home learning points to ‘many parents lack confidence in their ability to support their children’s learning’. Given the uncertainty that Covid era has brought, helping parents to create a supportive and productive home learning environment is a key element in ensuring that remote learning is effective.
What?
The programme aims to build parental efficacy, giving them the confidence and skills they need to support learning at home with practical tools and strategies in these key areas:
Creating a productive home learning environment
This will help your child to feel more engaged and be more productive, more actively involved in their learning and more likely to develop new skills. Creating the right home environment makes learning more meaningful and long- lasting.
Building routines and good homework habits.
Creating a regular routine communicates clear expectations and helps your children understand what’s required of them. Following a routine provides structure, helps get the right balance between school work, homework schedules and establish a positive work ethic in your child.
Growing your child’s self-regulation and motivation
Creating a set of strategies and skills that enable your child to manage their emotions and behaviour when met with new challenges and situations helps them feel good about themselves, helps them to be brave enough to take risks, deal with setbacks and gives them the confidence to reach for higher goals.
Nurturing and supporting a love of reading
Creating an environment where your child can be nurtured in their love of reading gives them a skill required for lifelong success.
Strategies to support parents to cope with the uncertainty and stress of living in this Covid era.
Where parents are stressed and tired, they often find it harder to support their children thrive with home learning. Sharing three simple strategies can help parents self-manage themselves.
How?
